Research:

Shana Moulton’s Whispering Pines series is one of my favorite examples of color as a defining characteristic in video art. Moulton uses vivid, pastel colors to create a mood that is lively and happy despite the odd humor. She also uses a variety of editing techniques that enhance the theme of the video. In the 8th episode of the series, Moulton uses multiple songs to set the tone of the video and edits the cuts according to the speed of the sound which sets the pace of the whole piece.

One of my favorite filmmakers, Casey Neistat, makes all kinds of ridiculous videos detailing unusual and often risky processes he endures. He uses many different angles and includes drone footage for a unique perspective. Casey also adds a few slow motion shots to highlight certain settings and helps the viewer focus in on the motion.

Rules:

One - incorporated stills

Two - wipe transitions

Three - no silence, ever
