Kodak DC210 Zoom - Eastman House Project
The worlds first amateur megapixel digital camera, Kodak DC210. With 2x optical zoom, a 1.8 inch lcd display and 4MB memory card the DC210 was the cutting edge when it was released in 1999. So how does it compare to the image quality and user experience of modern cameras. While a 1 megapixel image is much smaller than modern standards it does contain enough detail for social media or small 4 by 6 prints. The quality of the user experience is also simpler than many current options; however, this experience is similar in many ways to new cameras. The means by which a photo is taken and recorded are still the same. The DC210 has a viewfinder, a screen to review images, a sensor, a lens and a shutter button. While the core components of the camera are the same, many small modifications were made in the last 17 years to improve the overall interaction a user has with their camera. As a digital camera, the DC210 is an overall good camera and surprisingly usable despite its age. That cannot be said for all 17 year old technologies.
